Make sure you take a look at this one on their actual website to enjoy the full effect. It is beautiful! Makes me want to go on a vacation, somewhere warm and magical.

Catchy Butterfly Design in a Website Layout

Friday, February 27th, 2009

When I was amazed in the colors of the Solia main page, I did some research and found the artist behind it. It was Hannah Malcolm and she specialized on website layouts, illustrations and pixel art. But her reputation is not the cause of my awe. It is the catchy design of her website.

I found this butterfly sitting on her website. The brown is in contrast with the dark background and each space in the butterfly’s wings is filled with light purple. This combination of purple and brown really reminds me of Solia’s image. But then again, this artist have never failed to amaze me.

What Happened When A Girl Played With Lights?

lightimage

Here is another image that played with lights. It reminds me a lot of computer games but it captures an idea of freedom and creativity. I really liked how the colors ranged from dark to light across the image and I liked how the woman is immersed in it. I think this is one of those wallpapers which will blow me away when I opened my computer.

Amazing Colors in Anime Forums

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

soliaonline

Ever wondered why anime forum sites get a lot of loyal users? Design may play a huge factor. I really liked how a particular website called solia Online played with colors.

Observing its header, it can be seen that the drawings are good. However, what I noticed is the intelligent use of color gradients. See how the color purple radiates into white and pink while it fades to bluish purple and how the brown clothes of the skin color of the character complements the background.

I also like the overlapping images below. Look at how the blue and red contrasts each other. Their artist may have known her colors quite well.

I think out of all the images in avatar forum websites, Solia Online is the most visually appealing so far.

Buy Layered Photoshop Files Or Sell Your Own Creations

graphicriver

I just heard GraphicRiver just launched … the website is a marketplace that provides a way for you to buy graphics, layered Photoshop files, vector graphics, icons and more. This is a great service for web designers, don’t have to spend a bunch of time trying to design things from scratch, now you can get something that already looks good and customize it a bit in Photoshop or Illustrator and it is yours.

The other cool part of GraphicRiver is if you are an artist you can actually sell your own art here and get paid about 40% to 70% of whatever it sells for.

I’m going to check it out.

Simpler is Better

I was looking for some t-shirt designs when I landed with this website with an amazing header. The good part is that it was not colorful. I also don’t think it made a huge effort to catch my eye. It was simple with the soft combination of black, white and red.

The good thing about it is how the header promotes its product without imposing on what the surfer likes to see. It simply shows the model and the t-shirt design. I guess simpler is still better.

Website Inside An Old Movie

If you are still looking for new ideas on how to design your website, then you will feel inspired when you see CSS garden’s website in an old movie. Not only did this website caught me by surprise, I was pretty amazed by the originality.

This website lets you see the content through the movie screen. In my opinion, the design catches attention but is not practical for content. This can work more for a landing page because of its ability to capture the surfer’s attention. However, if one would scroll down, he can see the content piling up in columns which can be hard to read. In this aspect, I think it garnered some negative points.

The design reminds me a lot of old movies. Sites tackling niches like Dracula and other old movies can use this kind of design. Nonetheless, it still receives my points for being unique and standing out.

Cool Use Of Flash

Here’s a very cool looking design. Clean, lots of white (gray) space. A touch of Flash brings the design to life. Notice at how a photo of a human makes the website look more alive, more welcoming. Maybe it’s just me…

Incorporating Sales Materials Into Your Web Design

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

For many people, particularly internet marketers, websites are a vehicle to sell some type of product or service. While there are many people who only want to provide their visitors with information that will enlighten them and improve their reader’s lives, there are also those who primary purpose is to make money. In order to be successful, marketers must incorporate sales material into their web design correctly and seamlessly.

It is important for webmasters to avoid coming across as merely sales pages that are after internet users’ money. While people log on the internet to make purchases, their mindset isn’t “to spend money” but to “find a product, service or information that will help make their lives easier or better”. It is important for internet marketers to realize this. Consequently website owners should their web pages in such a way that their offer meets a legitimate need or desire for their target market. Visitors who feel like they are getting important and valuable information from a particular website will be more willing to make a purchase if they do not feel like someone is simply after their wallets.

haragei

The combination of a beautiful piece of art and clean design elements, almost an art gallery look here on this website. Perfect look for a web design firm, showing off their creativity and professionalism. Take a look at the crisp and clean navigation tucked over at the top right. As you hover over it the background fades to a hint of brown bringing the button out from the rest.
