In my opinion, the readability of a font is easier "black on white". The inner design of the posts would be nice for the background of the web. I would add the red to the titles and white for the inner background. A blog about the best of the best web designs should be as clean as possible in order to focus the attention on the content. You don't need a spectacular design because you already have spectacular content. My advice, keep on working on it, on other "cleaner" options, maybe make a public votation on the web with a couple designs. At the end, a blog is made together by owner and users, so we could make better if both are satisfied with it! I agree with max.
