Using Facebook “Social Ads” Feature To Sell More Products

Facebook has become one of the most well used and respected social networking websites.  It initially started out as a blogging platform for college students. It was a place where they could share pictures and communicate with each other. Today, people of all ages create Facebook pages in an effort to find and keep in touch with past and current friends. With millions of members, Facebook is quickly becoming a very popular place for marketers to advertise their products and/or services.

Unlike many social networking sites which discourage advertising, Facebook welcomes it. Facebook’s Social Ads allow members to advertise their products and services to other members. Advertising can be targeted to one’s product demographic. If marketers are interested in aiming their marketing efforts at young, female adults, 25 and older, Facebook allows them to do so.

Facebook ads are shown based on the keywords that the marketer chooses. They can be displayed in several places. One of the common areas are on the designated advertising spaces on the left side of the page. Ads can also be included within the various News Feeds. For example, Facebook users are constantly updated on their friend’s actions through a feed.  When a user’s friend writes on other people’s wall, adds another friend, they or perform some sort of action, their friends will be able to read about it on their page or news feed.  Facebook will include relevant advertisements in these feeds. Therefore, not only are a person’s ads relevant and targeted but because they are included in the news feeds of one of their friends, users are more apt to pay more attention and be much more interested.  All Social Ads are placed in a prominent position where members can see them. However, they are well integrated into the website so that they do not become a nuisance.

Creating A New Ad

Clicking the Ads and Pages link in the Applications box inside the right sidebar will start the process of creating an Ad.

The process of creating a Social Ad on Facebook is very easy. It involves 4 simple steps. Users need to create a short advertisement. Next, they choose a demographic for their offer. They will be allowed to choose an age group, the sex of their target group and relevant keywords. It is important to note that marketers will only be able to choose keywords that are made available by Facebook. Facebook will then calculate how many people fit these parameters.

Marketers can choose whether they would like to pay per impression or per click and how much they are willing to pay. Advertisers are able to set a daily spending limit. Ads can be set to run continuously or only during specified times.  After the ads begin to run, Facebook will provide marketers with statistical analysis about who is reading the ads. Information will also be given on how to best optimize their advertisements.
