fonts

I was looking for some interesting handwriting fonts today. I was successful in my quest due to finding a nice little website called SimplytheBest Fonts. They have an unbelievable amount of FREE fonts available on their website. They are all nicely categorized and simple to find. I was able to go right to a great collection of handwriting fonts without any difficulty.

So, if you’re looking for a particular style of font for an upcoming project or if you just like to find a quirky new font, I’d recommend that you visit SimplytheBest Fonts.

Sweet Color Site for Web Designers

ColorCombos.com is a cool find! I ran across it this evening while looking for some interesting color combinations.

Here’s what they have to say about their own site:

“This site was built to help web developers quickly select and test color combinations. The heart of the site is the Combo Tester, which allows web developers to see how different color combinations work together on the screen. If you are looking for Color Combination ideas, check out the Combo Library. The library contains hundreds of color swatches, along with their color hex values. You can also use the website color grabbing tool or the search tool to get a quick start.”

Check it out…I think this site could be a useful tool. So far, my favorite combination listed is Color Combo 104. What’s your favorite?

RSS Icon Collections

Found these neat looking RSS icons today while looking for some icons that weren’t just run of the mill. In particular, I like the round ones of the first line the best. I don’t have a particular reason as to why I like them the best other than to say that round RSS buttons don’t seem to be used as much as other designs. I also like the gray colored ones.

Anyhow, check them all out. If you find one you like, grab it…it’s FREE! :)

Good Looking Floral Background

gold floral background

I like website backgrounds, specially the patterny ones. They take a lifeless website and bring them to life. It becomes a piece of art that is framed out with a nice background. Here is an example of a good looking floral pattern background I found. I like the colors and how it fades into black at the bottom. It really brings the attention to the top of the website.

Here is the actual background image.

Please, if any of you out there know of any other good background examples, send them my way so I can add them to our collection here.

Cool Handrawn Footer Design

Cool Handrawn Footer Design

I’m on a new mission to find interesting footer designs. I came across the site for MB Dragan today and liked it. I actually like the entire site’s design. Lots of hand drawn elements and great color combinations.

But, I like the footer because it ties into the them so well. It also “anchors” the site by creating “ground” or a “surface” so to speak. The header of the site is in outer space and the footer is on the ground. Very fitting and appropriate. Check it out and enjoy!

Fun Font

typography

This one made me smile. I wonder how much time was spent trying to capture the necessary letters out of the soup? Has anyone seen the “Alphabet Soup” font replicated on a website? If you have, please let me know. I’d like to check it out and feature it here.

Interesting Navigation and Header

Interesting Navigation and Header

As I’ve stated in the past, I enjoy sites who incorporate non-traditional, yet functional navigation. This site has blended an interesting navigation style into a cool, eye-catching header. I’m not really sure what this site’s primary function is at all. I am assuming it is either someone’s personal site showcasing their own interests or if it is a blog about homes, living, etc. Anyhow, I like the header and I like the navigation. The dark background is another pleasing element too. The logo is also of interest. I like the “chalk art” style. Check it out…I think you’ll like several elements here as well.

Good Logo and Nice Website

Good Logo and Nice Website

The logo for Jet is pretty cool. I like the way the ‘j’and the ‘t’ create the silhouetted ‘e’ to round out the logo. It’s a good, creative idea. There are several other design elements that I like about the website. The background is appealing to me in both color and style. I also like the frame around the main page of the site. I’m not too keen on having it open up in a separate window all by itself. I think that’s a bit awkward for most users. And, of course I’m not thrilled with the music starting up on its own. However, there is at least a mute button that is very obvious for the user so it can be turned off ASAP. :) Color combinations and a great logo make this a website of interest to me.

I Like Omnia’s Style

Style

Omnia’s website appeals to me on many levels. As I’ve stated before, I like hand drawn/sketched elements which they include on their site. I also like non-traditional navigation when it is done well. Omnia’s navigation is done right. Instead of taking you from page to page, it simply moves you further down the same page with the thumbtack ‘pinned’ down next to your current location. Simple, but it’s a nice touch. It helps them create a seamless, professional look. Their layout reinforces the fact that they are designers and developers. It’s a somewhat subtle way of reassuring their customers that “we know what we’re doing.”

What are your thoughts on their site? Are there any particular aspects that you like or dislike? I’d appreciate your feedback!
